INDIA – HEADQUARTERS

INDIA

UNITED STATES

CANADA

With the rise in iOS and Android smartphones, the growth of Indian mobile app market simultaneously skyrocketing. Every month you can see hundreds of apps launching in the mobile arena. While some connect a good rapport with customers, others plummet tragically.

The latest version of Android Nougat is here and I’m expecting an upgradation any moment now. With an upgrade in OS, I, like many others expect new and amazing user friendly apps and features.

So while Android and iOS reign the smartphone market, Windows too are trying really hard to get a good target rate for themselves (in the smartphone world).

While Japan and UK saw a rise in e-commerce stores, it was USA and China that lead the iOS app store. US and Germany ranked themselves in top for Google play. These countries naturally possess better established markets and are constant when it comes to gaining high revenues. However, there are many online marketing companies that are starting up the initiative to launch their app worldwide.

Growing Usage Of Smartphone

Believe it or not, smartphone users in India spent an average of 4 hours on their handsets. A survey conducted revealed that Indian users spent around 3-4 hours an average each day. One third of that time is spent on applications.

India Crosses 100 Million Mark In 2015 With Smartphone Shipments

As per the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, around 25.6 million mobile phones were shipped in Q4 of 2015. Nevertheless, by end of 2015 there was an increase in 28.8% to 104 million units putting India as one of the rapidly growing smartphone market in the entire Asia Pacific.

The “Make in India” campaign has pushed many Indian marketers to come up with exciting features right here in the country. In fact, couple of smart phones shipped in 2015 was from Indian manufacturers. On the similar tone, 4g smart phones went up by 13.9 million units which is more half of the market during the 2015 Q4.

Best Sellers Of India – 2015

Samsung is still the leader in smartphone market of India with more than 26.8% of share during 2015 Q4. The J-series contributes to more than two-third of the total shipments.

Micromax holds the second position with 14.1% share in 2015. However, it saw a downfall of 12.1% and 23.5% the last quarter. The company is facing some serious competition both from Indian brands as well as China. However, Micromax 4G smartphones showed an increase to 27% becoming a leader of LTE shipments for Indian brands.

Third in position is Lenovo and Motorola that put Intex on the fourth position. With a decent market achievement of 11.6%, Lenovo sales went up triple in 2015 Q4. Lenovo K3 still continues to be a bestselling model.

Intex went down drastically to 4th spot even though the shipments grew 40.9% during Q4 of 2015. While the driving force is still 3G based handsets, they are trying to launch few 4G based models expecting good gains will come their way.

Lava, with a decent 20% share somehow managed to hold the position in fifth place. The main reason they gained share is due to their online channel via 4G shipments from Xolo series. They expect to play the field using more of LTE segments.

Top Performers Of 2016 – Q1 & Q2

Samsung is still a global leader holding the top spot with 22.8% market share in 2016Q2. The position can be accredited to launch of Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge devices. Apart from the two models, increased shipments of basic models especially in regions such as Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa made the brand dominate the smartphone market. Even the budget friendly J7 series has proved successful amongst many local brands, claims IDC.

Apple saw a decline of 15% year after year right from 2015Q2. While the iPhone SE scored fairly, iPhone 6S was the best selling smartphone followed by SE and 6S plus.

Huawei continues to be at number three position. Around 50% of the shipments can be related to mid-end and high-end phones during 2016Q2.

Oppo had outrun Lenovo (and Motorola) grabbing the fourth position and holding it well in 2016Q2. With owning 6.6% of the smartphone market, Oppo mainly targets its own homeland – China. However, with excellent marketing strategy, they are continuing to find success in Asian markets (outside China).

Vivo holds the fifth position outranking Xiaomi. It had continued to remain in the same spot this entire quarter with X6 being the top selling device. With heavy celebrity endorsements, it has managed to capture many fans and make their presence feel.

Top Mobile Operating System

  • As far as the operating system goes, Android is still a ruler with more than 84% market share.
  • iOS, on the other hand, owns only 15%.
  • Microsoft Windows and Blackberry are hitting an all time low with 0.7% and 0.2% respectively.

Conclusion

To sum it up, smartphones and telecommunication is a deadly combination that is here to stay. The future seems positively apprehensive with many opportunities for smartphone users to explore the unknown.
